Ahead of the inaugural Melbourne Web Series Festival on 20 July, we’re profiling all 30 series that made the Official Selection list. Next up is Mythos, created by Miriam Pultro.
Filmed within the urban city of New York, is the story of Morgan, once known as the goddess Athena who can no longer segregate her mortal family from the cosmic conflicts of the gods. According to Miriam, the character driven series is “a story that focuses on character and relationship above all else; the fantasy twist is just the backdrop that raises the stakes.”
The creation of the series was sparked by Miriam’s strong passion for all things mythological. This web series cleverly does so whilst remaining true to the values of “mortality, family, love and fate.”
When asked why create a web series, Miriam responded, ” I don’t need a studio, connections, or a large marketing budget.” Evidently, passion and hard work is enough to create a successful series in this time and day.
What do you want people to take away from your series?
That you can do a lot with few resources, but that, in the long run, you really do need those resources (manpower, equipment) to make a top-notch product. Also, that a cast of highly talented actors can elevate a product that is otherwise rough around the edges. Personally, I hope to intrigue people enough to brush up on their mythology and connect the characters on the screen to the stories they’ve been told.
Is it an ongoing project? If so, can you give us some clues about what comes next?
I’m writing scripts for our second season, but we’d need a lot more help (people, money, resources) to actually produce it, so I can’t guarantee it at this point. Season Two plays out how Morgan’s decision at the end of Season One will affect her own future, as well as the future of civilization. We introduce new characters from the mythological canon, and there are flashbacks to another era that show how these legends came to be.
