Hollywood Hitmen- a fast-talking dark comedy about two insecure and highly neurotic hitmen, struggling to make a name for themselves in Los Angeles’ bizarre community of contract killers.
Created by Enver Gjokaj, Maximilian Osinski and Rafi Silver in 2015, this comedy portrays the hilarious and sometimes poetic sadness of the contract killers’ constant desire to succeed while they continually get in their own way.
Why should people watch your series?
It’s a funny dark, witty comedy that is enjoyable to watch. Everyone can relate to not winning, to being the underdog. We believe that we created a fun lens to experience that through. The performances are fantastic and the cast we were able to get on board are just amazing in their roles.
What’s special or different about your series?
We always thought the characters and the writing stood out the most. There’s a sympathy you feel for these guys. Not because of their jobs obviously. But in the sense that as we mentioned before, everyone can relate to not winning. There are some really touching moments between Evan and Max. The juxtaposition of Evan being a violent man who is a musical theatre geek and Max’s skills coupled with his deep insecurity are fun and enjoyable to watch. Their relationship feels grounded and real even though it’s been established in this heightened silly world.
What was the inspiration behind the little pauses during the episodes?
We thought it added a fun style and pace to the show. It also made us feel more confident that the audience would understand these characters immediately, as the Hollywood parody can be a little specific at times. Also with short from content you only have so much time to establish characters and history. They were not written in the script. It was an editorial decision that everyone agreed was the right decision.
In what ways do you utilise social media to further your brand?
We use it to the best of our ability, but we are limited in some ways. Longer content is tough in the sense that it’s hard to go viral. It’s challenging to work on the internet without the support of a big network.
How do you finance your series?
We financed it ourselves. We spent about $5000 USD and shot 55 pages in 2.5 days due to the limited budget. We actually didn’t have time to shoot some of the scenes we wrote. Rehearsal was key in the process and at times we shot with three cameras.
Is your series an ongoing project? If so can you give us some clues about what comes next?
We would love for it to be ongoing, but finance is an issue. The first shoot was an incredible challenge and you can’t ask people to work for free forever. Festivals like Melbourne WebFest will hopefully create enough of a buzz to move forward with something.
Describe the ultimate fan of your series?
Hopefully someone who wants to fund future series. We have so many scenarios and stories for these guys, it’s so fun to write. But really, people who love the characters and the world we created. Everyone worked so hard on this and it means a lot when people love it.
Please tell us a quirky and/or interesting fact about yourself or team that’s unrelated to your web series?
We had a bunch of Australian’s involved with the project so it’s really amazing that we were well received in this festival. Damien Bodie a Melbourne local edited the series, Dichen Lachman, Paul Ashton another Melbourne Actor and Director and Mathew Holmes. Rachel Taylor even helped us on a few days running around helping. So this is really wonderful for the show to be acknowledged in Australia.
What do you want audiences to take away from your series?
A good time, a love for the characters and hopefully wanting more.
