Creators Tom Nijam, Sanjay De Silva, Barun Chatterjee get Melbourne’s top chefs & pros to show you the best places to eat in their neighbourhoods in Hood Food Guide.
The series has five episodes covering five suburbs along with companion videos within the series: Treat Yo’Self and What’s Grub Got To Do With It? where the chefs show the most indulgent places to eat and the best date spots.
As a content creator, where do you go to find information about other filmmakers and web series?
Our friends and community are all into it so it’s a bit of a constant.
How do you finance your series?
Ourselves.
How would you describe Melbourne’s food scene?
Overcrowded. High quality.
How did you go about choosing the neighbourhoods featured in the series and the chefs that would guide the audience through them?
We chose chefs and venue owners who are leading the scene here, wherever they lived or called home is the suburb we filmed in, so it chose itself.
Please tell us a quirky and/or interesting fact about yourself or team that’s unrelated to your web series? Sanjay is a rapper.
Are there any web series, other than your own that inspire you?
High Maintenance is a good story.
How many people worked on this project?
All up, maybe a dozen, but mostly 5.
Have you achieved the goals you set for this series?
Not yet.
What was the most difficult challenge you had to overcome in production, and how did you go about it? Arranging the schedules of busy chefs, film crews, and five venues.
From start to finish, how long did it take to complete this project?
We filmed a pilot in November, then played around for 6 months, then did the other fifteen episodes in the space of about 3 months.
