Created by Patrizio Trecca, Sisara is a three-part thriller that delves into a secret plot underway in the Vatican.
The series follows Nicola Spadaro, a powerful lawyer with a checkered past and mysterious motivations. He’s used to getting what he wants, but he may have finally met his match.
Sisara is characterized by mystery, which according to Trecca is because some things in film are better left hidden.
All of the characters in the series have led colourful lives before we meet them, how did you go about crafting characters with such interesting back stories?
When I met Richard Walters at UCLA in Los Angeles, he told me that the most important story is hidden. When he told me these words I discovered a new way to write movies and series. Indeed I think that in a TV Series, the backstory is very important. Just think about series like Breaking Bad, Homeland or The Following.
The series leaves the audience with more unanswered questions than answered ones. Do you have any plans for a continuation of the story?
Of course. We already have plans to continue the story. All the unanswered questions have been provided and they’ll be answered.
What (and/or who) inspired Sisara?
There are many ideas taken from my life. Some ideas are taken from the Bible, but mostly by lived events.
What do you want audiences to take away from your series?
I hope that people will reflect on some of the values that we encounter every day in our life. Sìsara is not my story. Sìsara is the people’s story, because if you can see Vatican subterfuges it doesn’t mean that we don’t care. In Sìsara there is love, war, peace, nuisance, hate, blood and passion. Can someone say that they’ve never experience these emotions?
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome making Sisara?
It was and is my country. Italy has a big problem with talking about these topics.
How do you reach your audience?
We used social networks like Youtube and Facebook. We tried to achieve getting the series on Italian television but, you know when someone talks about Vatican it’s very difficult!
How do you finance your series?
I counted on Tauron Entertainment and on the people’s passion.
What’s special or different about Sisara?
That it has the courage to talk about these types of topics.
