It’s November 24, 2023 at The MRT (Memory Retrieve Technology) Institute in Istanbul, Turkey. MRT are investigating a crime in a dead man’s brain.
Created by Peter Vanilla, The South Korean series tell the story of Dong-Sik, a famous investigator at MRT. He has a severe headache but he must interview the only witness of the serial murder, an old women. Dong-Sik accuses the woman’s son of the crime. As the interview unfolds, it appears things are much stranger than they seem.
And then, the woman tells him the improbable story.
Your series delves into the human psyche, have you had much experience with human psychology or was there a lot of research involved?
As a matter of course, while writing this drama, my son gave me the most inspiration. However, my son is really selfish. While watching my children every day, I learnt they believe that the world revolves around them. The main character in the story create a pretext and then an excuse to overcome their difficult situation.
Why should people watch your series?
A person who has lost a loved one, has been treated unfair, or told a lie to get out of a bad situation will relate to Witness.
As soon as the old woman sits down, she sings a popular Western song/poem ‘When You and I Were Young, Maggie’, why did you choose that particular song for her to sing?
It is a song I remember from my childhood. Come to think of it, it is a song that is hiding in my unconscious. It is stored so deep that I hum it without noticing. Maybe mom in the memory of the Dong-sick was thought to have been stored as Maggie’s song.
How many people worked on this project?
About 10 people. It was totally self-funded so we had a very small budget, but all the cast and crew really helped out.
From start to finish, how long did it take to complete this project?
The actual production period took about one month. However, now I’ve created the story it is ongoing, I want the protagonist to grow and move forward.
What was the biggest challenge you had to overcome making this series?
It is intended to give the fun to viewers who each time through a new story.
I can not compete with a Hollywood movie, flashy CGI, blockbuster budget, famous actors and so on. So I wanted to make a different story that is still interesting and enjoyable. I think that was my biggest challenge.
