Join us and learn from the professionals
Don’t miss out on our workshops and masterclasses.
We have a jam-packed development program this year, with a range of exciting, world-class industry events and workshops to help creators hone their craft. For now, sit back and relax. We’ll plan festival weekend for you.
Friday 10 July
La Trobe University, City Campus 9:30am – 5pm
For web series aficionados and amateurs like, we’ve put together a sweet Industry Development Day of workshops and networking at the La Trobe University City Campus. First up, General Assembly take us through us how to strategize our content with “Content Strategy: Cultivate Your Brand and Grow Your Audience.” Afterwards, our own Simone Flanagan explores the ways in which we can make our web content more inclusive to a wider audience with “How to Make Your Work Accessible: Connecting with Audiences of All Abilities.”
Still hungry for more? Or maybe you’re just hungry. After a lunch break we return to break out of a creative funk with Craig Batty’s “The Creative Screenwriter: Using Exercises to Expand Your Craft.” The day ends with entertainment consultant Kathie Fong Yoneda’s special workshop on “Killer Pitches for Web Series.” And then, of course, there’s Opening Night in the evening for those ready to party with the professionals.
Saturday 11 July
“Idea Generation for Web Series”
Jasper Hotel, 489 Elizabeth Street 7pm – 10pm
Keen on a drink and a snack and a bucketload of inspiration? On Saturday evening, after a long day of screenings we’ll reconvene at Jasper Hotel for dinner and drinks. Then, Lean Filmmaking will be hosting an awesome workshop on “Idea Generation for Web Series”. Swing by the bar and kitchen, network with other creators and join us in a super fun Idea Generation game! This is where you want to be on Saturday night, along with fellow creators, our judges and guests.
Sunday 12 July
Deakin Edge, Federation Square 2pm-3pm
What better way than to learn from a panel of digital content giants? Indulge with us in an hour of free-flowing conversation. Panelists include Christian Van Vuuren and Nick Boshier (Soul Mates / Bondi Hipsters), Tamasin Simpkin (The Katering Show), Enzo Tedeschi (Airlock, The Tunnel, Event Zero) and Zach Ruane (Aunty Donna). The panel will be moderated by the effervescent Beatrix Coles.
Best way to end the weekend? Knock back a few with everyone you’ve met along the way at our notorious After Party.

We love to see members of our fast growing MWF family return with new or ongoing projects.
Kate McLennan and Kate McCartney (pictured above) are back with The Katering Show after winning Best Screen Writing, Best Actor and the iview Award last year with Bleak. Cam Elkins is back with Season 2 of the hugely popular Stories of Bike after winning Best Non-Fiction and Best Editing in 2014 with Season 1. 2015 marks the second time Chris & Josh has been a part of our Official Selection. Canadian series Asset is back with new episodes, as is their countrymen in Manigances, with their second season, “Notice Rouge”.
Actor Rohan Mirchandaney from 2015 Official Selection series How to Talk Australians also starred in Doobie Nights, which was an Official Selection last year. The multitalented Paul Michael Ayre, who played Superman in the Justice Lease is back, playing “Paul” in the awkwardly hilarious sex-comedy BedHead. Sydney based series SYD2030 won Best Drama at the inaugural festival in 2013,and are back with season 2 this year. Enzo Tedeschi created 2013 Official Selection series Event Zero, and is back with Airlock this year. Our favourite anthropomorphic Panda, Isaac, is also back this year in Wastelander Pand: Exile.
Last, but not least, we were so impressed with the comedy stylings of Aunty Donna’s Rumpus Room after the series made Official Selection in 2013, that we invited the comedy duo back to host our Awards Gala last year and again this year![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][divider line_type=”Full Width Line”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_column_text]
