Welcome to the 8th Melbourne WebFest! As the Online Edition is taking place on a new platform, we’ve put together this how-to guide to help you explore the program, view content and network with other participants across the festival weekend.

How can I find out what is screening in the 8th annual Melbourne WebFest?

Go to melbournewebfest.com and click ‘2020 Program’ from the top menu bar. Then select ‘2020 Selection’ and scroll down to view the full line up of series and nominations. You can browse each series for a synopsis, credits, trailers and more. 

WHAT TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS ARE THERE?

You will need a computer, smart TV, smart phone or tablet with a stable internet connection. For interactive panels, talks and networking sessions, please use headphones/earphones to minimise potential audio feedback. 

What is the difference between a Screening Pass and a Festival Pass?

There are two ticket types for the online Melbourne WebFest. The ‘Screening Pass’ is free and will give you access to stream the selected series in our lineup, vote for your favourite series in the Blackmagic Design Crowd Favourite Award, watch the Pitch iview competition and the Award Show. 

The ‘Festival Pass’ must be purchased, and it will give you access to all of the above plus our panels, workshops, In Conversations and networking events. 

How do I set up my profile?

Melbourne WebFest 2020 will be hosted on the online conference platform Hopin, it is your one-stop-shop to participate in the whole festival. Visit hopin.to/events/melbwebfest2020 select your ticket type and click ‘Checkout’. Whether you have selected a paid or a free ticket type, you will be prompted to create a Hopin profile. Input your name, email address and a password, and click sign up. This will bring you to the Melbourne WebFest 2020 online reception page. 

We encourage you to fill out your profile by clicking the user icon in the top right can corner and selecting ‘Update Profile’. You can add a profile picture, include links to your personal or professional pages, add your job title and bioThis will make it easier to network, see who else is attending the festival and connect with people. 

How do I stream the on-demand series?

To stream the Melbourne WebFest 2020 selection, once registered for a Screening Pass or Festival Pass, please revisit hopin.to/events/melbwebfest2020 once the festival portal opens at 12:00am September 4th AEST and log in. Click ‘Expo’ in the left-hand menu and scroll down to browse and stream the series. On this page you will also be able to browse sponsor booths. You will have access until festival close at 11:55pm September 6th AEST. 

How long are series available to stream?

The online festival portal will open at 12:00am September 4th AEST and close at 11:55pm September 6th AEST. Whilst the festival is open, click ‘Expo’ in the left-hand menu of the Hopin page and scroll down to select a series. Click on that series’ booth and you will be able to stream the selected series or the episodes made available to us. Many series are available online elsewhere and will still be available on their native platforms once the festival ends. 

How do I vote for my favourite series to win the Blackmagic Design Crowd Favourite Award?

To vote in the Blackmagic Crowd Favourite competition you will need to register for a free Screening Pass or purchase a Festival Pass at hopin.to/events/melbwebfest2020.  

Revisit hopin.to/events/melbwebfest2020 once the festival portal opens at 12:00am September 4th AEST and log in. The competition will close at 2:00pm September 6th AEST. Click ‘Expo’ in the left-hand menu and scroll down to browse and stream the series. Each series booth will display the ‘Vote BMD Crowd Favourite’ button on the right-hand side of the series stream which you can click to submit your vote.

You can only vote once for each series but you can vote for as many series as you like in the festival line up. The voting opens 12:00am September 4th AEST and closes 2:00pm September 6th AEST. The series with the most votes will be awarded the Blackmagic Design Crowd Favourite Award and a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K (value AU$3,145.00) 

How do i speak with a Melbourne WebFest representative throughout the festival?

A Melbourne WebFest representative will be available for video chat (during programmed hours) over the festival weekend. To access the video chat, login in to your account at hopin.to/events/melbwebfest2020 and click ‘Expo’ on the left-hand menu. Select the ‘Melbourne WebFest Help Desk’ booth. Please visit this chat room to ask us any questions, request support or just introduce yourself. 

You can also post a comment in the chat bar. To access, visit hopin.to/events/melbwebfest2020 and select the chat icon on the right-hand side of the page. 

You can message a team member directly using the “People” tab on the right-hand side of the page and find one of our helpful staff.

what is speed networking and how do I participate?

Our speed networking events will take place on the Friday and Saturday night of the festival. The fast-paced event will allow you to match with individuals at that festival and chat for up to 5 minutes before being matched with the another festival attendee. This event allows you to meet and connect with web series creators and industry professionals from around the globe.

To access networking events you will need to purchase a Festival Pass at hopin.to/events/melbwebfest2020. Revist the link at the speed networking event scheduled times (posted on our program page on this site and the Hopin site). Click ‘Networking’ in the left-hand menu and click ‘ready to participate’ to begin. Please note: you will need to be using a device with a camera for the platform to allow you to particpate but you can turn the camera off once the networking begins. 

The speed networking portal will be open for the duration of the festival but there may not be other participates using the feature outside of the scheduled speed networking event times. 

How do I watch the panels, workshops and in discussions?

To access panels, workshops and In Conversation events at the festival you will need to purchase a Festival Pass at hopin.to/events/melbwebfest2020. Revisit this link during the festival and log in. The online festival portal will open at 12:00am September 4th AEST and close at 11:55pm September 6th AEST. Click ‘Sessions’ in the left-hand menu and if a session is live you will be able to enter it.  

Live sessions will also appear in the reception area of the online festival platform and allow you to join. 

  

What if I miss out on a scheduled event at the Festival?

All events at Melbourne WebFets 2020, excluding the networking sessions, will be recorded. After the festival has ended, Festival Pass ticket holders will recieve access to the recordings for a limited time.
