The Boy in the Blue Cap: The Gerard Ross Story (AUS)

Official Selection

The Boy in the Blue Cap: The Gerard Ross Story is an eight-part documentary directed and produced by award-winning Australian journalist Kristin Shorten, forensically documenting one of Western Australia’s most enduring and heartbreaking mysteries.

On an ordinary Tuesday morning, more than 22 years ago, 11-year-old Gerard Ross vanished from a leafy street in the seaside town of Rockingham.

Gerard’s body was found two weeks later in a lonely pine plantation 20km from where he was last seen on October 14, 1997.

His murder remains unsolved and his case has become the second largest investigation in WA Police history.

Now, more than two decades later, Gerard’s family, the police and those connected to his case have shared their emotional stories for the first time.
